U.S. GOVERNMENT

U.S. Government is a required senior class in which we look at the basic foundations of our government in the United States. We take a look at the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, each of the three branches of government and finally the Bill of Rights. I incorporate lecture, note taking, content area reading, discussions and projects. One of the points I try to stress to my students as the importance of taking an active roll in our society. We talk about the importance of voting and how it is our voice to our leadership--locally, at the state level and nationally. I encourage my students to go home and talk about class discussions with them. One of my goals it is to get them to develop their own personal political view and then to apply it. We register to vote and also talk about current issues that will have an impact on upcoming elections.

Here are the course objectives:
As a result of required instruction the student will be able to:

1.      Understand the basic organization of the U.S. Government

2.      Develop note-taking techniques from films, lectures and reading of the text and other supplemental materials including the Internet.

3.      Gain an appreciation for the American system of government.

4.      Become aware of the citizen's obligation to government.

5.      Practice acceptable work and study habits (and have a little fun too).
