Compare & Contrast Essay
This assignment is described in the A+ Essay section of this lesson. Please be sure to read those instructions. You will also need to spend time studying the two paintings found there. Follow these instructions for writing the essay.
First:
Make a Venn Diagram for the two paintings. List at least 5 things in each section of the diagram. Use specific art vocabulary!
Second:
Write the introductory paragraph for the compare and contrast essay. This paragraph should name both paintings and artists. It should also introduce the idea of comparing and contrasting as well as set up how you will go about discussing the paintings. (Will you discuss one painting at a time or will you discuss both paintings as you examine oen principle of art at a time?)
Third:
Use your Venn Diagram to choose which elements you are going to discuss. Organize your information and begin typing your body paragraphs. Please underline or bold when you type an art vocabulary term.
Finally:
Write a conclusion that reviews your main points. You may also want to reveal which painting you prefer - if you do, use art terms to describe why! Before you turn in the essay - PROOFREAD IT and do some editing so it really makes sense.
What do I turn in?
Print off the Self-Evaluation Form, circle the score you earned in each section. Staple the essay, self-evaluation form and the venn diagram together and turn them in...you're done!
