Discussion Notes

This assignment is quite simple. Print the worksheet (2 pages) and view the PowerPoint presentation. You will take notes to fill out the topics on the worksheet. Then you are done! Save these notes for Ram Prep 11...If you have Qs, please discuss the topics with your teachers. They are here to help!

Site Visit

For this assignment you are going to have to go visit a post-HS training option. Call, arrange a tour or appointment; take notes; get a business card from the person you talk with; bring back any flyers or other info they give you. All of this goes in your Ram Prep folder.

Finally, type up a one-page reflection on the experience. Does that option still interest you? What did you learn by going there that you couldn't learn just from reading about it on the internet? What surprised you? Could you see yourself enjoying that place after HS? Include info on what you learned, who you spoke to, questions you still have, etc.

Where could you go?

• Perry Technical Institute (great tours, takes about 2 hours, here in Yakima)
• YVCC (you think its lame b/c it is in Yakima, but go check out the campus with an official tour and see all the options available locally)
• Central Washington University (in Ellensburg - 40 min away, great campus with lots of perks for students, see if they teach what you want to learn)
• Military Recruiter (again, local! see how this training works and what they want from you in return)
• Any other community college, technical school or university would be fine. Just do something interesting to you!!

Suggestions:

• Go with a group of friends
• Ask your teacher - I am very willing to go on any local visits. It is good for me to stay updated.
• Take your parents. How can they say no to looking into your options? And they might pay for the gas!
