These assignments are designed to help you prepare for a job interview. You will get an interview through your networking or by having a great resume. At the interview you need to be ready to convince the interviewer that you are the right person for the job.

Practice Interview Questions

These are questions frequently asked of applicants. You can expect to be asked these or similar questions. Before answering, consider why the interviewer would ask a question like htis - what are they trying to learn abotu you? When answering, be hoest, give examples, and relate your responses to prior experience. In preparing your responses, keep in mind a job for which you are preapring to interview for soon of a job for which you hope to interview in the near future.

Frequently Asked Interview Questions

Please copy and paste the Qs into a Word document and type your answers. Be specific and provide detailed examples. You WILL be asked these questions by your teacher.

 

Mock Job Interview OR Reverse Job Interview

Before you do this assignment, please talk to your teacher to get your plan "OKed."

Mock Job Interview: Find a business owner or manager that will do a "pretend" job interview for you. You need to prepare a resume and cover letter, complete an interview and then GET THEIR FEEDBACK on how you did. Get some advice on how to improve your interview skills. Write a reflection.

Reverse Job Interview: In this activity YOU are the interviewer. Find a company that you might like to work for either now or in the future. Set up an appointment with the manager or owner. You will ask them questions about how a HS student can prepare for getting a job there: what classes to take, job experience is needed, etc. Ask them for advice on getting the job. Write a reflection.

REQUIREMENTS FOR EITHER:

  1. Get a business card from the person you talk to.
  2. Reflection first paragraph should explain how you set up the interview experience and which kind of interview you did.
  3. Describe what you wore to the interview - was it appropriate?
  4. Reflection should also include the list of Qs (either the Qs they asked you or the Qs you asked them).
  5. Reflection needs to address what you learned that can be applied to future interview situations.
  6. The reflection will be professional, written at HS level and be at least one page - not counting the list of Qs.
  7. Count on your teacher calling to verify that you did the interview.
