First Place at Instrumental Music Solo/Ensemble!
Congratulations are in order for our outstanding instrumental music students from West Valley High School!
On Saturday, January 27, 2024, ten students from West Valley qualified for the state solo/ensemble competition that will be held in the spring at Central Washington University.
At the regional competition in Yakima, the following students were awarded first place in their category and will advance to the state competition:
Xinyi Wang received a 1+ for flute solo – First Place.
Eva Treat received a 1+ for timpani solo – First Place.
Aliyah Rodriguez received a 1 for oboe solo – First Place.
SageLynn Sevigny received a 1 for bass clarinet solo – First Place.
Eva Treat and Ryan Hager received a 1 for multi-percussion duet – First Place.
The West Valley Sax Quartet, which includes Aiden McDonald, Athena Tambanillo, Zach Hansen, and Nathan Raj, received a 1 for small saxophone ensemble – First Place.
The following students were awarded second place in the region which means they are the “first alternate” to the state competition.
Ryan Hager received a 1+ for marimba solo – Second Place.
Daniel Sim received a 1+ for flute solo – Second Place.
The West Valley Percussion Ensemble, which includes Aarya Kunhiraman, Dashle DeMill, Eric Rogers, Ryan Hager, Owen McDonald, Keira Osburn, Athena Tambanillo, Rogan Cantrell, Emily Treat, and Eva Treat, received a 1+ for percussion ensemble – Second Place.
The following students were awarded third place in the region which means they are the “second alternate” to the state competition.
The West Valley Flute Trio, which includes Xinyi Wang, Xinyan Wang, and Lucy Sawyer, received a 1 for small woodwind ensemble – Third Place.
The following students are congratulated for their performance at the regional competition.
Lucy Sawyer received a 1 for flute solo.
Aarya Kunhiraman and Dashle DeMill received a 1 for marimba duet.
Walker Miller and Daniel Sim received a 1 for flute duet.
Walker Miller received a 1- for flute solo.
Eric Rogers received a 2+ for marimba solo.
Josh Hullet and Sagelynn Sevigny received a 2 for tenor sax duet.
