Joint concert highlights multi-age collaboration

Recently, student-leaders from the high school band program joined the West Valley 6th Grade Band for a joint concert. Prior to the concert, student-leaders from each section of the high school band program mentored our 6th Grade students with a "clinic" where students rehearsed all together and they rehearsed in "sectionals." Each sectional was led by student-leaders from the high school. Sectional rehearsals are where each section of the band practices their part, separate from the other sections of the band. After the sectional rehearsals, all of the musicians returned for a rehearsal all together. In the evening, the joint concert with all students together was performed at the High School Gym for family members and community members.

West Valley Superintendent, Dr. Peter Finch, said, "This is one of my favorite concerts of the year. I love seeing our high school students work with our middle school students. It's a great way to build community. I think it is great that different age levels can come together and make music together. What a beautiful concert and a beautiful experience for our kids!"
